The New Zealand Warriors have consigned the Brisbane Broncos to their sixth straight loss in a 26-16 epic, to keep the Queenslanders winless since the COVID break and the pressure firmly mounted on coach Anthony Seibold.
It was one-way traffic in the first half as an impressive Xavier Coates double gifted Brisbane the perfect start to see them 10-points up inside 25-minutes.
But a late try from the Warriors before half-time set up a tantalising second period.
The tone of the match shifted returning to the field with the Warriors striking back to claim the lead through Agantius Paasi.
That was short-lived, however, after Herbie Fanrworth pounced on a fortunate bounce from Anthony Milford’s kick to reclaim the lead for the Broncos.
Ever the battlers, the Warriors refused to roll over. And with no Roger Tuivasa-Scheck or Kodi Nikorima, the New Zealanders engineered a comeback for the ages.
Ken Maumalolo was the man to lead the charge, bagging a late double that included the decisive try to send the Broncos to another week in the NRL firing line.
